“NET ENERGY ANALYSIS IN PRACTICE: A Conversation with Guy Moxey”. Guy Moxey, Vice President of Power Development at Wolfspeed will discuss the results of the Energy Saved on Energy Invested (ESOI) analysis conducted by BPEI. This analysis quantifies the energy saved over an equipment’s life cycle vs. the incremental energy used in its production using Silicon Carbide as an illustrative use case. The analysis has been applied to EVs and heat pumps.
Learn how he and the Wolfspeed team have used the findings to inform investors and customers about the advantages of their products
Guy Moxey has spent his entire career in the power semiconductor industry with roles in applications, product marketing, product line management, regional and business unit leadership. His career has included employment at International Rectifier, Siliconix and Fairchild Semiconductor. Mr Moxey currently serves as the Vice President of Power Development for Wolfspeed. He received his B.Eng (Hons) in electrical/electronic engineering from the University of Brighton and his MSc in power electronics from the University of Birmingham.
Key findings of the study on whether Silicon Carbide Mosfets actually save energy overall include:
- The lifetime energy savings from employing Silicon Carbide MOSFETs are many times the incremental energy required to produce these devices.
- This analysis underscores the potential for large fuel savings based on intelligent location of manufacturing hubs. Wolfspeed’s operation in upstate New York, which offers ample clean energy via hydroelectric power, has the potential to substantially increase the ESOI of this technology.
